Zuckersüß 524: Markdown, Dating, Ratespiele

…mit viel Gebackenem, mehreren Lokalen (Café Prückel, Jetzt, Shiki), einer Ausstellung (Helmut Lang im MAK), einem Spiel (Mausritter), zwei Strickprojekten (My Dream Cardigan und Klimawandeltuch) – und wie immer, den besten Links der vergangenen Woche.

Seit dem letzten Zuckersüß habe ich eine Galette des Rois (aus Plunder/Croissantteig nach SIFT von Nicola Lamb), Brandteigkrapferl mit einer Tahini-Karamell-Frischkäse-Füllung (Mashup aus Windbeuteln, Tahini-Karamell und purem Frosting, wie z.B. bei den Feigenblatt-Muffins), Glückspilz-Kekse (nach diesem Rezept von 2022), Vanille-Eis mit Rotwein-Birnen-Swirl, Schoko-Tahini-Cupcakes mit Tahini-Frischkäse-Frosting (nach diesem Rezept von 2020), Snack-Muffins mit Nüssen und Käse (Rezept bald im Blog), sowie Pain au chocolat aus dem übrigen Plunderteig gemacht.

Gegessen

Sehr gute Pizza von meinem Mitbewohner, der unseren Haushalt um einen Pizzastein erweitert hat. Penne mit Zucchini, Erbsen und Knoblauch. Fenchel mit Zitrone. Ofenkartoffeln in drei Varianten, dazu Kohlrabi-Schnitzel und Joghurt-Dip. Kaiserschmarrn (No. 1 des Jahres!) mit Griacherlmarmelade, weil Apfelmus aus war.

Café Prückel

Neulich war ich zum ersten Mal im Café Prückel (1010). Dessen sachte modernisierte, majestätische Inneneinrichtung mit 50er-Jahre-Akzenten und cutem Branding hat es mir so angetan, dass ich es zu meinem Go-To-Kaffeehaus für Freund_innen auf Wien-Besuch machen werde. Außerdem kann die Pâtisserie echt was – ich teilte mit meiner Begleitung eine knusprig-blättrige Crèmeschnitte mit viel Vanille, ein karamelliges, hauchdünnes Blätterteigschnörkel und ein hellblaues Punschkrapferl.

Jetzt

Das Jetzt (1170) war, als ich quasi ums Eck gewohnt habe, mal mein Stammbeisl. Seither ist es leider völlig aus aus meiner Wahrnehmung verschwunden – zu unrecht! So gemütlich und außerordentlich gutes Barfood – z.B. überbackene Tortillachips (11,50€) oder perfekt gewürztes Ful mit vielen Garnituren (12€?).

Shiki

Mein Besuch in der Shiki-Brasserie (1010) war leider enttäuschend. 135 Euro für diese fünf Gänge sind schon eher teuer, die 1.-Bezirk-Sehen-und-Gesehen-werden-Atmosphäre war anstrengend. Hier mehr dazu.

Gesehen

Helmut Lang im MAK

In die Helmut-Lang-Ausstellung im MAK war ich ja letztens wegen zu großem Andrang nicht gegangen (s. Zuckersüß 523), aber um ehrlich zu sein, bin ich letztlich eh nicht sehr überzeugt davon. Ich hatte mir erhofft, Schneiderkunst von Nahem anschauen zu können, stattdessen ging es viel um die Brand (Pläne für Showrooms, Werbeanzeigen), das Spektakel einer bestimmten Modenschau, bei der man auch die Sitzordung vom Boden ablesen konnte und die Vision einzelner Looks, illustriert mit Model-Polaroids.

Gespielt

Seltene Kategorie hier, aber: Mausritter ist so wholesome, dass ich es erwähnen muss. Ein TTRPG/P&P-Game, bei dem man als Maus-Trupp mit einigermaßen simplen Charakteren cute-sy Abenteuer erlebt. Mit dieser Welt kann ich weitaus mehr anfangen als mit klassischem D&D und ähnlichen Settings. Das Ende der Kampagne bekomm ich wahrscheinlich dennoch nicht mit, denn ich bin einfach zu ungeduldig für derartig langwierige Spiele.

Gestrickt

Weiter an meiner My Dream Cardigan (pattern von Wool & Beyond bei ravelry), ich muss sie nur noch steeken! Endlich weiter an meinem Klimawandeltuch 2025 (s.a. Daten Stricken in der Klimakrise, ravelry), denn die Garnfarbe, die mir für den August (+1,1°C) fehlte, war endlich wieder lieferbar.

Die Grenzkontrollen zwischen Österreich und Deutschland wurden zur selben Zeit eingeführt, als ich nach Wien gezogen bin. Obwohl ich selten nach meinem Ausweis gefragt werde (racial profiling etc etc), empfinde ich die Kontrollen jedes Mal als persönlichen Angriff – die großartige Idee von Schengen für bissl Populismus opfern, WTF?! Das Ganze besteht noch dazu auf zehn Jahren rechtlichem Provisorium, das nichtmal hält, sagt Jus-Professor Werner Schroeder von der Uni Innsbruck:

The common justifications the member states have, which always vary slightly, are persistent migration, especially via the Balkan or Italy [routes]. The main focus lies on the threat posed by the number of migrants crossing the EU border.
The statistics show that the numbers are declining strongly. And, much more crucially, the European Court of Justice has decided that, according to Article 25 of the Schengen Border Code, which gives the basis for the possible introduction of border controls, only a six-month period of border control is allowed, unless a new justification is provided.
And this new justification actually needs a new occasion and not the continuation of the existing occasion. In this respect, these justifications are not sufficient.

I shouldn’t have to say this in 2026, but in case any media executives are listening: AI companies are not here to help your product succeed, spread your content, or to make you money. Unlike the early days of search, ChatGPT is not here to help navigate the web, or direct users to your product. AI’s sole purpose is to extract the valuable information from your product, and monetise it for the AI company. When you “optimise” yourself for AI, or when you sign another incredibly dumb deal to license your content to AI firms, what you’re doing it making their product better — and to these companies, ‘better’ means a world in which all of your news, your shopping, your work, and maybe even your romantic relationship, is fulfilled by an AI.

Ein (ziemlich verkopftes) Plädoyer fürs einfach Weiterbloggen bzw. (wieder) bloggen anfangen! (Ich weiß von mindestens vier Leuten, die das vorhaben und hier womöglich mitlesen – you know who you are, DO IT!).

The blog, at its best (a best I aspire one day to reach) is Montaigne’s direct descendant. It’s a form that allows for intellectual exploration without demanding premature certainty. You can write a post working through an idea, acknowledge in the post itself that you’re not sure where you’ll end up, and invite readers to think alongside you. You can return to the topic weeks later with updated thoughts. The format accommodates the actual texture of thinking, which is messy and recursive and full of wrong turns.
Social media flattens all of this into statements: Everything you post is implicitly a declaration. Even if you add caveats, the format strips them away. What travels is the hot take, the dunked-on screenshot, the increasingly-shitty meme, the version of your argument that fits in a shareable image with the source cropped out.

Ursula K. Le Guins Texte verfolgen mich offenbar. Und ich ärgere mich in meinem Arbeitsalltag als Tech-Redakteurin sehr oft, welche Dinge landläufig (und redaktionell) *nicht* als Technologie gelten.

Its technology is how a society copes with physical reality: how people get and keep and cook food, how they clothe themselves, what their power sources are (animal? human? water? wind? electricity? other?) what they build with and what they build, their medicine — and so on and on. Perhaps very ethereal people aren’t interested in these mundane, bodily matters, but I’m fascinated by them, and I think most of my readers are too.
Technology is the active human interface with the material world.
But the word is consistently misused to mean only the enormously complex and specialised technologies of the past few decades, supported by massive exploitation both of natural and human resources.
This is not an acceptable use of the word. “Technology” and “hi tech” are not synonymous, and a technology that isn’t “hi,” isn’t necessarily ‚“low” in any meaningful sense.

3.2 Approved Response Times

Beim Hören dieser Sendung wurde ich sehr nostalgisch fürs Radiomachen. Wie viel man mit Sound ausrichten kann (die Trommelwirbel-, „oh“- und „ah“-Effekte fand ich sehr nett).
